Change: is it really a scary proposition?

Harnessing the Power of E-Marketing

Juliana Khalil PROgRÈS Consulting

After 7 years of working for major corporations, I decided that I needed to complement my engineering professional experience with something more challenging and more rewarding: running my own business.

My name is Juliana A. Khalil, member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec, with seven years experience in manufacturing at General Motors and Pratt & Whitney Canada.

I run a consulting and project management business in industrial engineering and process optimization. Montréal based and operated since September 2003, PROgrès Consulting has the mandate to help small and medium sized manufacturing companies to improve their process, increase their quality, reduce their scrap rate, and more. Our competitive edge lies in our work methods: seeking internal involvement of stake-holders and creating a dynamic environment for change.

Launching my business was very easy! I actually had the opportunity to launch my business with a big contract: I was available for work after an MBA degree and a friend called me for a temporary contract that has changed my way of looking at and managing my own career. I took the opportunity and the next day, I was the owner of a project management and consulting business.

Having my own business has helped me grow in many ways: from understanding the importance of networks and contacts to conducting strategic planning and daily operations, running a business covers a whole spectrum of tasks that brings me new learning experiences every day.

As in every burgeoning business, the primary challenge is building trusting, long lasting relationships with your clientele. This task is time consuming and requires perseverance and most importantly confidence in your own skills.

Networking is a key ingredient to seeking out opportunities and partnerships. WENS enables this and helps women to grow as entrepreneurs. I hope to achieve long and durable partnerships and mentorships through fellow WENS members.

Insight of the Week

"Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored."

Earl Nightingale 1921-1989, Radio Announcer and Author

  • In our world we must allow time for addressing the unexpected as well as our personal needs. Although many companies operate in today's business world many may be unaware of the needs to address the aspects of environment, health and safety and energy consumption as part of operating an efficient and lawful business.  These above aspects are important consideration and in many ways a legal responsibility of all business operations and owners.

Join us, while we investigate and study various case studies on the many facets of the ENVIRONMENTAL and HEALTH & SAFETY ISSUES IN SMALL BUSINESS that will be featured in four consecutive WENS newsletters dated for July 12th, July 26th, August 9th and August 23rd.

  • Change: is it really a scary proposition?
  • Change is inevitable and affects all of us at various points in our lives as we embark on new ventures. William Bridges, renowned for his work on transition, states that "change is the way that things evolve" and "...how we got to where we are and how we'll continue the trip". Change generates new opportunities for growth and development, both professionally and personally. Technology, science, medicine, and society in general have evolved tremendously because of new discoveries.

  • Harnessing the Power of E-Marketing
  • We're living through a revolution in the business world that was inconceivable even five years ago. Through the incredible power of the Internet, businesses have direct and precise access to their markets like never before. Spending precious advertising dollars on scattershot strategies like television, radio and print no longer make sense. That's why companies are turning their shrinking advertising dollars to the Web, where precision strategies give them better value.
