wonder why?
- Some individuals work twice as hard but don't get
the recognition they deserve?
- Some people seem to get all the breaks while
others get passed by?
- One entrepreneur has a business that gets talked
about and the other doesn't?
- One woman's volunteer work leads to
opportunities and another's doesn't?
- And why the nagging feeling that others are
better at selling themselves than you are?

Any
day a good day is a "WENSday"
Ian
Howarth
There
are any number of reasons for the self-
employed or small businessperson to reach out to
others likewise oriented in the community-not the
least of which is to simply find out what other people
are doing. The idea that women do business
differently from men is perhaps not that revolutionary
a concept, but indeed if recent statistics are any
indication, there are certainly more women out there
proving that axiom true.
Though women ten towards traditional job sectors
like healthcare, social assistance and professional
services when going into business for themselves,
they are doing so in record numbers.
Between 1996-2001, for every self-employed man, there were seven women

Harnessing
the Power of E-Marketing
Mutaz
Majdoub
We're
living through a revolution in the business
world that was inconceivable even five years ago.
Through the incredible power of the Internet,
businesses have direct and precise access to their
markets like never before.
Spending precious advertising dollars on scattershot
strategies like television, radio and print no longer
make sense. That's why companies are turning their
shrinking advertising dollars to the Web, where
precision strategies give them better value.
Not only does Web marketing offer better return on investment, but
it offers a huge

Aesthetics
and Web Marketing
Charlotte
Riley
For
four years I worked in the editorial department of
a major Internet directory. My job required me to
search for and review thousands upon thousands of
Web sites. Oh, the horror!
I could tell you about the company that misspelled
its own name. I could rhyme off a list of sites that
had no contact information. I could even show you
the university site that had a navigation button
reading "Course Summery." But I won't. Instead, I
want to address the less obvious and the
overlooked: Web site aesthetics.
With more and more people searching and using the
Internet to find products and services, a strong
visual literacy has developed. Little animated GIFs
that depict a construction worker with the
words "Under Construction" blinking underneath have
gone by the wayside. Well, in most cases. These are
signifiers of "old school" design, when the Web was
young.
Today, a certain design standard is expected.
