Web Design Services |

When I decided to leave behind an established career in film and television production for the world of Web design, I
raised many eyebrows.
Some people spend their whole life trying to break into show business, but I was lured away from the field by the chance
to blaze trails in the ever-expanding online frontier. Armed with a B.A. in Communication Studies from Concordia University,
by my late twenties I had worked on productions for major American and Canadian broadcasters like the CBC, Fox, YTV, TLC,
and Discovery Kids. A documentary I produced was screened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
A native Montrealer, I was intrigued by the potential of the new media from the earliest days of the World Wide Web.
In 1998 I finally took the plunge and answered my calling as a Web designer. The immediacy of Web design - seeing the
results of your work so quickly - was a refreshing contrast to the lengthy process of filmmaking. It felt great to do something
that I was solely responsible for creating. I spent the first year of my new career freelancing in Web design. Drawing
clients such as Toronto's Avenue Road Arts School through word-of-mouth, I built my company, Zoonini Web Services, from the
ground up. In 1999, I accepted a job at a Web search directory to complement my freelance work. Over the course of the next
three years, I worked at the Canadian office of LookSmart, a major US-based Web directory as a Web Researcher, then Lead Editor,
and finally as Managing Editor.
My time at LookSmart coincided with the dramatic dot-com boom. It was fascinating being a part of that world, and I learned
a lot about search engines and online communities. After a few years, I decided it was time to focus on the creative and
technical challenges of Web design, and switched to full-time Web creation.

International
Women's Day
Highlights
of the contributions of Canadian Women
International Women's Day really took hold between
1913 and 1917 when women held rallies either to
protest the war or to express solidarity with their
sisters. In December 1977 the UN General Assembly
adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations
Day for Women's Rights and International Peace.
